Salary: $85,000.00 – $95,000.00

Client is seeking a Physician Assistant – Cardiology to join their team.

Job Summary:

Work in collaboration with the Cardiologist to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate health care for hospitalized medical patients and clinic patients.  Ordering and interpreting appropriate lab, x-ray and special studies in collaboration with supervising physician.  Establishing a working diagnosis based upon acquired data and developing a treatment plan for Cardiovascular conditions in accordance with current clinic practice and in conjunction with the physician.  Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising physician or other healthcare professionals. Provide staff and patient education in the topics of coronary artery disease.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides patient care in the outpatient setting
    • Presents new patients to physician and care to follow-up patients
    • Orders and reviews labs, x-rays, cardiac diagnostic studies and vascular studies in consultation with supervising physician
    • Supervises stress tests once credentialed to do so
    • Expectation of seeing 50-60 outpatient visits per week
  2. Provides care for patients requiring coverage while in the hospital
    • Performs data gathering, initial evaluation and formulates a preliminary diagnosis and plan of care to present to the supervising physician
    • conducts hospital rounds with physician as needed
    • Assists supervising physician with care of patients (including admissions, H&P, discharge planning)
    • Average call coverage of 1 out of 3 weekends (no weeknight call)
  3. Educates and communicates on a regular basis with patients and families, staff, physicians and clinic manager
    • Evaluates, screens and counsels patients on health maintenance
    • Ensures patients and families are informed of their cardiac and medical conditions and options available for management
    • Works closely with clinic manager to assure clinic operates within budget, remains in compliance and follows hospital policies
  4. Ensures that appropriate documentation and coding occur in a timely manner
    • Documents appropriately according to the care given to the patient
    • Assists physician in dictations of consults, progress notes, H&Ps and discharge summaries
    • Assists coding and billing department by assuring clinic information flows correctly and timely

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a degree in physician assistant studies from an accredited college or university
  • Must hold a valid Wisconsin state physician assistant license
  • Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants
